How to Trust Your Intuition
I often get asked, “How can I make my intuition stronger?” Well, the trick is to trust it. The more you trust your intuition, the stronger it becomes.
Trust gets bandied around in New Age circles like it’s an instant thing. People say, “Hey, you’ve known me for five minutes, why don’t you trust me?” Okay, that’s a bit extreme, but really, our first trust must be in ourselves. Trusting others takes time, so if someone demands trust too early on, ask yourself why. It’s not a good sign. Trust can’t be forced. It grows at its own pace.
But you can focus on trusting your own inner guidance, and this will help you avoid situations you may have been unaware of or point you toward wonderful new opportunities. Mine has literally saved my life and prevented an accident with a truck. I would not disregard it no matter what anyone says.
Have you ever been told to follow your intuition or go with your gut? And have you ever been confused about what that means? Why prefer feelings over logic? Isn’t that for mystics and psychics? But really every creature on the planet has an intuition, and trusting your intuition can make life much simpler and easier. Decision-making is a lot easier when you trust your intuition.
Trust Yourself
Trusting yourself means trusting what you feel, what you see, and what you know, and giving yourself complete backing in this. If you can trust yourself, your feelings, and your intuition more, trusting others isn’t as big an issue.
For example: you don’t feel comfortable with someone, so check in with yourself. If your feeling is a present-moment feeling, it’s usually correct. Or maybe the person just reminds you of someone toxic, and it’s simply a memory. But if you really don’t feel good, leave. This tells your intuition that you trust it, and it will get stronger. This is how you learn to trust your intuition. It is you, and a very precious part of you.
Have you ever walked away from a conversation with a weird feeling in your stomach? Or something just didn’t feel right.
It could be right after you chatted to someone, after getting off the phone with a close family member, or after dealing with someone at work. Whatever the situation is, if you feel your intuition kicking in after a conversation with someone, it’s time to listen.
Use Your Intuition
Use your intuition to find a parking space, locate lost items, and handle other day-to-day tasks. Once again, it will grow and strengthen the more you use it. Breathe deeply and hold the thought, “Guide me to find the perfect parking spot,” then go where you’re guided. Who’s calling or texting? See what you feel before you look.
It will get stronger the more often you do this. The more you use it, the more you will trust your intuition.
If something feels off, pay attention. That uncomfortable feeling is your body’s way of communicating with you. Never put yourself in a situation where you are compromising your own needs, boundaries, or values because someone has asked it of you. If someone you know, even a close family member, is demanding something from you, listen to how you feel.
If you are not sure. Say you will think about it. It gives you time to work out what you feel.
Doubts
Everyone has doubts, but they don’t need to hold you back. The more you tune into your inner guidance, the less these doubts will surface. Just thank the doubts and carry on trusting yourself and your intuition. Try not to overthink your intuition. Trust is beyond thinking; it’s simple knowing. Acknowledge your doubts but also make sure they don’t take over.
Practice Builds Trust
Much like trusting people, it takes time and patience to build trust in yourself, so don’t worry if you misread things now and then. Learning to trust your intuition completely is a journey like any other, and being kind and patient with yourself along the way is vital.
Little things can strengthen your intuition. You can use it to help you with little things like finding a parking space or even “feeling ” who it is when the phone rings.
Ask Your Dreams
Before you go to sleep each night, reflect on questions and issues you couldn’t find solutions to during the day, such as “How can I solve this?” Then go to sleep. If you wake during the night and have dreamt about the situation, keep a notepad handy so you can write the answer down for the morning.
Keep a dream Journal.
Dream journaling is recording fragments of your dreams each morning while they are still relatively fresh in your mind. Good dreams can be just as informative as bad dreams; both can be useful tools for unlocking the creativity that goes unnoticed during your waking life.
When you trust your intuition, life works better.
Your intuition is your inner guide. If you don’t listen to it, you’re not living at your full potential. It puts you in touch with your subconscious power and helps you make better, more solid decisions. Learning to trust your intuition is like learning any new skill: the more you practice, the better you get at it. So be patient. Results don’t always happen right away. Like exercising any muscle, start slowly and gradually build your “intuitive muscle.”
What happens when you trust your intuition? You make sure your own needs are being met, you keep yourself safe, and you align yourself with the things in life that truly make you happy. Listening to that feeling deep inside your gut is exactly what can guide you toward the things in life that matter most to you.
Have fun and enjoy the process.
